Our Story

We Started Because We Knew How It Felt

Mawar grew from a family experience — and that shapes everything we do.

Who We Are

A Small Team With a Very Specific Focus

Mawar was founded in Kuala Lumpur in 2019 by Norzahra Ismail, whose parents were living independently in Seremban while she worked in the city. The distance was manageable — until it wasn't. After one difficult winter of missed signals and rushed visits, she spent a year thinking carefully about what families like hers actually needed.

The answer was not a care facility. Her parents were well. What the family needed was structure: reliable companionship, organised household coordination, and dependable information flowing back to the family. Mawar was built around that gap.

Today we work with families across the Klang Valley. Our core team is small by choice — we believe that consistency in relationships, not scale, is what makes this kind of support work well over time.

Our Guiding Principles

Calm over urgency

Good support rarely needs to be rushed. We work at the pace that is comfortable for the person receiving it.

Transparency with families

Families should never have to guess. Regular written updates and a single coordination contact are built into every programme.

The older adult's own wishes come first

We check with the person themselves before arranging anything. Their comfort with the arrangement matters more than the family's convenience.

Small and consistent

We limit our caseload deliberately so that each family receives genuine attention, not a number in a system.

How We Work

Standards We Hold Ourselves To

These are not policies written for a brochure. They reflect how we have chosen to operate since the beginning.

Named Companions Only

Every older adult is paired with a consistent, named companion. We do not use replacement or agency staff without prior family notice and consent.

Written Records on Every Visit

Each visit generates a brief note — what was done, what was discussed, any observations worth passing to the family. Records are stored securely and accessible to the family contact on request.

Personal Data Handled with Care

We hold only what is necessary — contact details, household preferences, and update notes. Nothing is shared beyond the designated family contact. We comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Regular Family Check-ins

Beyond written updates, we schedule a short monthly call with the family contact to review how things are going and whether the programme needs any adjustments.

Transparent Billing

Monthly invoices are issued with a clear breakdown. If anything changes within the billing period, we notify the family before it appears on the next invoice. No surprises.

Voluntary Participation

We introduce ourselves gently and only continue if the older adult is comfortable. If they prefer to take a break from any part of the programme, that is entirely their choice to make.

Home-Based Companionship in Kuala Lumpur

Many families in Malaysia face a familiar situation: an older parent living independently in a familiar neighbourhood while adult children work and raise families in the city, or overseas. The parent is well. They are managing. But "managing" and "comfortable" are not the same thing — and the family knows it.

Mawar was designed for exactly this space. We are not a residential facility, a nursing service, or a generic errand company. We are a small, structured programme that sits between the family and the home — keeping both sides better informed and the home running more smoothly.

Our Social Engagement Programme addresses the quiet narrowing of social life that often accompanies ageing — the reduced outings, the smaller circle, the days that feel a little emptier. Our Regular Check-in service offers families the reassurance of knowing someone is genuinely checking in, not just confirming a pulse. And our Daily Living Support coordination handles the organisational weight of running a home when mobility or energy begins to make that harder.

We work across Kuala Lumpur and the broader Klang Valley. Our team speaks English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin — which matters in households where generations communicate in different languages.
